Starting a new year often brings thoughts of change and fresh starts. But for me, Emma Macaulay, owner and tour operator at Macaulay Luxury Travel, 2026 is about embracing who I am while opening new doors for adventure and connection. I’m a female entrepreneur deeply rooted in the Highlands of Scotland, passionate about sharing the magic of this land through personalised, small-group tours. This year, I want to reintroduce myself and share what’s ahead for Macaulay Luxury Travel.

A Personal Journey in the Highlands of Scotland
Running a travel business in the Highlands of Scotland means wearing many hats. As a female tour guide and Scotland tour guide, I’m not just behind the wheel—I’m your storyteller, planner, and sometimes even your friend on the road. Balancing this with family life as a mum and wife keeps me grounded and inspired.
Last year brought some incredible milestones. I was honoured to be shortlisted for two awards recognizing resilience and growth as a highland business woman. These achievements reflect the hard work behind the scenes of a small sole trader like me, navigating challenges while staying true to my values of sustainable and regenerative tourism.
Being on the committee for the Highlands of Scotland Tour Guide Association allows me to support fellow guides and help shape the future of our industry. It’s a role I cherish because it connects me with others who share my passion for this beautiful region.
Expanding Our Fleet and Experiences in 2026
One of the most exciting developments at Macaulay Luxury Travel this year is the addition of a second Mercedes V-Class vehicle. This 8-seater joins our existing van, doubling our capacity to 14 guests across two vehicles. This expansion means we can offer more extended tours and private experiences without compromising the intimate, personalised service we’re known for.
Our focus remains on small groups, allowing travellers to explore Scotland at their own pace. Whether you’re arriving on a cruise ship in Invergordon or planning a bespoke journey through the Highlands, we tailor every detail to your interests.
In March, we’re hosting a whisky tour for 20 guests, a perfect way to dive into Scotland’s rich distilling heritage. Later in the year, my business partner Kate Graham and I will lead an 11-day retreat combining travel, wellness, and storytelling through our new venture, Story & Soul Retreats. Our April retreat sold out quickly, showing there’s a real appetite for immersive, meaningful travel experiences here in Scotland.

What Makes Macaulay Luxury Travel Different
As a female entrepreneur and tour guide, I understand the importance of connection and authenticity. Our tours are not just about seeing sights—they’re about feeling the stories behind them. From ancient legends of witches to the rugged beauty of the Highlands, every journey is crafted to leave you with lasting memories.
We prioritise sustainable tourism, ensuring that our adventures support local communities and protect the environment. This approach means you can enjoy Scotland’s wonders knowing your trip respects the land and its people.
Our small-group tours also mean you get more than just a driver. You get a guide who knows the hidden gems, the best local food and whisky spots, and the stories that bring Scotland to life. Whether you’re a solo traveller, a couple, or a group, we create an experience that feels personal and unique.
Looking Ahead: Adventures Await in 2026
This year promises to be full of new stories and discoveries. With our expanded fleet, we can welcome more guests from cruise ships in Invergordon and beyond, offering seamless transfers and tours that fit your schedule.
If you’ve been dreaming of a Scottish escape that combines adventure, culture, and wellness, our Story & Soul Retreats offer something truly special. The November 2026 retreat still has spots available, so don’t miss your chance to join us for a transformative experience.
I’m excited to continue growing as a female tour guide and entrepreneur, sharing the Highlands of Scotland with travellers who want more than just a trip—they want a story to take home.
